**Q: What is the benefit of using this?**
A: I researched graphite vs teflon before purchasing this and couldn't find a good answer.  I need the packing for my washing machine shut off valves.  I tried the teflon, but it just would not seal, so I purchased the graphite.  It stopped the leak.  I noticed that the graphite was softer than the teflon and I believe that is why it created a better seal.  It was soft enough to mold to the stem where the teflon was hard and did not seal properly.

A: Thank you for inquiring about a Danco product. Yes, the 3/32 in. x 24 in. Graphite Valve Stem Packing is resistant to heat and has a working temperature range: 0°F - 212°F.

**Q: For steam valves in old radiators, do you wind this around the stem, or on the threads of the nut that fits around the stem?**
A: As best as I know, it was ALWAYS wound around the stem.  Teflon tape on the nut and threads if you wish, but the packing seals in the water/steam/whatever.If you use so much packing that you can't thread the nut back on, you have used too much.  Try a little less! Hope this helps, some  .....  Lee
