You definitely want to exfoliate and moisturize the day before! The added bronzer is nice to show if you miss any spots or need to blend better. It did not smell at ALL (that's a HUGE plus in my opinion), application was far easier than I thought it would be based on other reviews and the consistency-it is sort of viscous but not sticky. Normally I use tanning mousse so maybe it's just not what I am accustomed to. Anyway, the application was easy and a bit streaky at first but after a couple of minutes, the streaks disappeared.Now the not great... the color was extremely light. I showered 12 hours after application and could almost not see where I had applied it. My skin is very fair and I could barely see any change at all.
