So for someone who wants sturdy, holds up to 300 lbs., pretty dared safe and stable you don't want a 4 lb. ladder. So for those concerned figure out what your priority is (i.e. safety, the 4th step vs. 3 steps etc.) and compare the weights. We find it perfect for our needs (my husband is 72 and I was worried about regular ladders to change the air condition filters etc.). This will take some getting use to and mostly negates the extra deep steps. The hand rails give an added sense of stability, but that could be a false sense. A bit heavier than comparable step ladders but that should be expected. The latch mechanism is mostly cosmetic and it not needed. I am reluctant to give it a 5 star just yet as I could easily see someone missing a step on the way down. The handrails take extra room when stored, but I was expecting that issue. Bottom Line: All step ladders have plusses and minuses.
