This product encases the entire mattress. I had an unplanned test yesterday with one of my pups and I was amazed. As I quickly stripped the bed and planned to do the same with this cover, I realized I could wipe the cover down and optionally wash. I verified that no moisture penetrated the cover to the mattress - the mattress was "bone dry". This is like a second (waterproof) skin to your mattress, it is seamless to the bed. Since this encases the mattress, I do recommend 2 people to cover larger mattresses. I was able to do this solo on a Cal King but it took a bit. I found starting the cover at the end of the mattress and moving up worked best. The customer service follow-up post the order has been superior. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice price, good cover *by S***Y on August 14, 2016* This is a delayed review because I wanted to give this cover a good trial first. We've been using this cover month now and are very happy with it so far. It is roomy enough to fully cover both the mattress and the 3" mattress pad we have on top.
