Each successive bark will increase the correction level if the bark is within 30 seconds of the previous bark. If your dog does not bark for at least 30 seconds the collar will reset itself. Our dog started freaking out all of a sudden, and we quickly realized it was the bark collar (a.k.a. "torture device") that was causing him such pain. It works great though. We have 4 dogs and 2 of them bark incessantly for no reason. I put this on my larger dog who weighs 45 lbs and my littlest dog that weighs about 8 lbs. They learned very quickly not to bark at the wind! The other 2 have also learned not to bark for no reason because they hear the warning sound from the collars.
