**Q: Given the way the blades meet, what is the preferred method of sharpening?**
A: The design shows that the blades overlap when the shear is closed.
The right blade goes behind the left blade.
This is the reason for the minimum gap between the blades that you see the when you turn the shears. Instead when you look at them from the front the blades are overlapped each other, no gap. This is to save the edge.

It means you just have to sharpen the right side blade.

Remove the back plate and spring first.

Then start sharpening the right blade.
I tell you to sharpen slightly.
Rather check the result often and keep a minimum of space along the entire blade.

If you want to “trim” the left blade, go very soft with the sharpener.

If the gap widens, it can be adjusted by tightening the adjustment screws. The adjustment screws are also the screws that hold the spring.

**Q: How long is this item?**
A: total length is 8 inch.

**Q: Cut capacity?**
A: It is an outstanding pruner....but it is more detail work.  You can not cut dead or thick items.  I use it for my roses...I have 18 different bushes.
