Review: My wife is doing very, very well on these vitamins during her pregnancy. At our most recent prenatal checkup her OB/GYN said, after reviewing the ultrasound results from that day, that we should be thrilled with how great the baby looks at this point. These vitamins are highly bio-available, which is super important when it comes to supplements. All the vitamins/minerals come from natural, whole food sources instead of being synthetic, man-made versions like you see in cheaper/lower-quality vitamins which means the body has a much easier time absorbing and using the nutrients. One of the first things that attracted me to this product is that it contains folate (the bio-available, natural form of Vitamin B-9), instead of folic acid (the synthetic version). This is especially important for women in the very earliest stage of pregnancy, as Vitamin B-9 is what's needed to ensure that the fetus's neural tube develops properly (neural tube defects cause problems like spina bifida). A large percentage of the population has a gene that makes it hard for them to convert folic acid to folate in the body, which can mean women who think they're getting enough B-9 due to the vitamins they take aren't actually getting as much as they need. However, the neural tube has fully formed by about the 6th week of pregnancy, so this is mostly important for women who are attempting to get pregnant or are in the very early stages. My wife only takes half the recommended amount of pills per day - 2 instead of 4. She does this to save money, but also because she tries to eat healthfully and get vitamins through real food as much as possible. She uses these multivitamins as a safeguard against letting herself become deficient in any one vitamin or mineral. Some research shows that multivitamins may not make much of a difference for pregnant women (or for people in general) but we figure the cost of 9 months worth of a high quality prenatal vitamin like this is a small price to pay to help make sure our baby has all the nutrients it needs to develop properly. Obviously no supplement can take the place of a mother working hard to take good care of herself during pregnancy, but more and more evidence is showing how vital nutrition is to our overall health. Taking a high quality prenatal multivitamin is a no-brainer in our minds, and we'd highly recommend this one. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Long Overdue Update - Nov. 2017: Our son was born in September of 2016 after almost exactly 40 weeks of gestation, and was perfectly healthy at just over 7 lbs. My wife breastfed him exclusively for his first year and continued to take these multivitamins and several other supplements (all cleared with her OBGYN before starting) throughout that period, while continuing to completely abstain from alcohol. She did have a cup of coffee most mornings, though, after getting it OK'd by the pediatrician. At his 1 year checkup he was 25th percentile in weight, 75th percentile in height, and 75th percentile in head circumference. His pediatrician says he looks perfect despite the lower percentile in weight. He had what we thought was colic for the first two to three weeks of his life, in that if he wasn't nursing or sleeping he'd be crying loudly. We suspected it could be gas due to the way he would arch his back and squirm while crying, and how he would often settle down somewhat after finally getting some out. After checking with the doctor we gave him some infant probiotic drops every day for about a week. My wife also cut dairy out of her diet for a couple weeks during this time, but it was hard to tell if it made a difference. Sometimes it seemed like it did, and sometimes not. We're not sure what actually helped (maybe he just grew out of it) but shortly afterwards he stopped having those issues. He had problems sleeping at night (he would get super upset if we tried to get him to go to sleep on his own in his crib) up until he was about 10 months old, but that almost definitely due to our inexperience as parents allowing him to form sleep associations with things like being rocked and/or nursed to sleep. Shortly after 10 months something seemed to click for him, and since then he goes to bed super easily and sleeps a solid, uninterrupted 12-13 hours every night. Despite those few hiccups, he's been a super happy little dude and has seemingly never-ending energy and curiosity. He's super observant and learns/picks up on things very quickly, and has a very sweet, unique personality that runs the gamut from mischievous to fussy to loving. As far as common milestones, he started saying "mama" and "dada" (with actual meaning behind them) at about 6.5 months, was crawling around 7 months, and started walking shortly before his first birthday. Now, at almost 15 months, he spends all of his time running (literally, as well as a toddler can at least) around the house investigating anything he can get his hands on, understands and responds to dozens of words/phrases, can say many of them with varying degrees of actual pronunciation, and constantly uses them to try to communicate with people. He has so much energy and drive to explore things that it can be pretty exhausting keeping up with him. He also loves to flip through his books, but often can't sit still long enough for someone to read one to him. Obviously this is all anecdotal (and definitely the ramblings of a smitten first-time dad), and it's pure speculation as to whether anything would be different had my wife not taken these multivitamins during her pregnancy. All I know is that we had an awesome kid who appears to have zero developmental or formative issues, and by all measures seems to be very bright and happy. We feel truly lucky, as we're aware that there are so many ways it could have gone differently. That said, we plan to use the exact same approach to nutrition/supplementation for my wife's next pregnancy (when the time comes) and hope to repeat the results.
Review: I’m obsessed with so many of this brand’s products! They have very high-quality ingredients and source everything from organic farms. The pills are a bit large. I have to say, but if you don’t have problems swallowing pills, you’ll be fine. I also really love their green powder, it’s packed with every nutrient you could possibly imagine. I always just feel really healthy and I’m doing so much good to my body when I use their products.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How much folic acid is in each dose?**
A: 800 mcg of folate (the natural form of folic acid)

**Q: Do all of their products contain soy? I'm having a difficult time finding food-based vitamins that don't contain soy. Thank you.**
A: The only products in the Pure Synergy line that don't contain soy are those that are simply herbs or berries or grasses, like their Pure Radiance vitamin C, or their Cell Protector. Those types of products don't require the company to "grow" any vitamins or minerals in the soy "soup," so they are soy free.

**Q: Why isn't there an expiration date on the bottle?**
A: Sometime it is very hard to see for the printed expiration date.It is usually printed on the top parts of the bottle (not on the cover).

**Q: Does this contain DHA**
A: No it doesn’t

I love how natural these are. I have been taking them for almost a year now because I'm breastfeeding and I feel amazing. My hair and nails are growing like crazy. I feel like my baby and I both benefit immensely from these. The only downside to these are the tastes and smell, but you get used to it. They are on the bigger side but I don't have a problem taking them. Just a FYI, I've noticed it does change your pee color to a vibrant yellow. I wish I found these when I was pregnant. The only thing I take besides these daily are omega3s.
