If your charger says it will charge NiMH (nickel - metal hydride) batteries is should be good. Remove the battery from the charger when fully charged. The battery may be warm when the charge ends; this is normal because of the work (energy transfer) that has been done. In general batteries should be charged at 1/10 their normal discharge rate listed on their specification sheet (usually available online from the manufacturer.) If you are making you own charger, note that newer chemistries such as NiMH require use of an electronic charge management circuit and temperature sensor to vary the charge rate to prevent overheating the battery. (These are available online.) **Q: can you use these in a cordless phone** A: yes you can. i prefer the rechargeable saves money and most of time the rechargeable that came with phones are not as good as these here. we use a panasonic branded cordless phones and replaced them with these. no issues from batteries. even if your original batteries are non rechargeable these should work. If the device is not a high drain device such as a USB battery pack or a Maglite flashlight (you'd have to monitor the flashlight to avoid over discharging) then using a smart charger with a discharge feature is the best way.You shouldn't need to cycle the batteries more than once (top off charge > discharge > full recharge), you could actually test the batteries and that would be good enough, i suggested the latter though because i don't want to waste cycles on a smart charger. One full discharge cycle upon purchase is necessary due to self discharge and most likely because the batteries are more than a few months old and then subsequent refreshing is only needed based on usage.
