Pull the priming handle back to open the door. If you slide it back you insert the ammo. When done just pull the priming handle back. They are safe enough, but we had them play outside. It was windy, and these darts can really fly. We had at least 2 land on our roof and one on a neighbor's roof. Kids had a blast.
