No drama, no issues, no system software updates. Just upload the newest compatible version of Arduino with your OS. I am a reasonably experienced multi-platform computer user, but Mac is my preferred platform. For me, running Mac 10.13.6 High Sierra on a 2012 Mac Mini, Arduino 1.8.19 works flawlessly. AccelStepper, ezButton, and all the other popular libraries worked first time. The supplied USB cable was too short for my purposes, so I had to substitute a known working data plus power USB cable. Also, the device does not like being ported through hubs, though with the right hub it probably works fine. I just didn't bother. Although there is an official "Arduino Brand" this model does 100% of what that model does for $5 less. I have a kit that connects every GPIO pin of Arduino, and it connected fine. So for all intents and purposes, this is "the same thing as an arduino." **Q: Ordered two of these and get the same error message: avrdude: ser_open() : can't open device "\\.\COM4": the system cannot find the file specified.** A: When this happens, I've fixed it by closing the Arduino IDE, unplugging my USB cable from the UNO, plugging it back in, and restarting the IDE. (Save the file before closing the IDE, if desired.) This has always corrected the issue for me, even when the IDE shows an Arduino on COM4 and it's selected yet still seems unavailable. **Q: Does this use the CH340 ?** A: No. And no. He wants to know the USB chip, not the MCU chip. The USB chip is a CP2021 or whatever, it isn't the CH340. **Q: is the Elegoo compatible with the official Arduino program? (1.8.1 to be exact)** A: While I have not updated to 1.8.1 yet, I have used it with previous versions with no issues, so I see no reason why it should not work with the latest. These are easy to use. There are a ton of tutorials out there that will get you started right away. I use these to prototype as well as make complete projects. They have always performed well.
