It gives the keys the tiniest fraction of extra resistance, which I'm cool with, and it has a soft touch kind of like a lot of rubberized phone cases do, which again, I think is pretty awesome. I had only considered its utility for preventing crumbs/dust/etc but it honestly seems like it would be a great frontline protection against liquid spills too-- getting any amount of water in your keyboard is the number one way to irreparably mess up the computer, you can usually prevent damage if it gets anywhere else on the top body of a laptop.
