This product includes a dozen adult pairs of Black Widow spiders preserved in a non-hazardous aqueous solution, making them perfect for educational, research, or display purposes while ensuring safety and compliance.

## Description

Overview Latrodectus mactans is a medically and ecologically important species, which is frequently found in and around homes in southeastern United States. Preparation and Description Adult male and female spiders are preserved and fixed in alcohol, then transferred to an aqueous solution for safe handling and shipping. Most of these spiders are small or old, including captive bred extras that were too old or too small for use in venom production. Captive bred spiders were used, derived from breeding stock collected in SE Texas. Latrodectus in your area may be different. Uses This preparation is designed for teaching and studying spider anatomy, form and function and identification and as reference specimens for biologists and clinicians. They are also intended to be destroyed. For example, leg joints may be bent to study articulations and dissected bits may be removed for closer examination on microscope slides. Mature adult females and males are included for studying secondary sexual characteristics, which are important for understanding the behavior and life history of these spiders and are frequently used for keying and identifying spiders. Recommended Accessories (not included): Stereo dissecting microscopes and compound microscopes with high intensity incident illumination (from above) Dissecting dishes, insect pins, scalpels, fine-tipped tweezers and iris scissors Glycerin, coverslips and microscope slides
