I recommend an uncle mikes or a Blackhawk IWB holster for a Ruger. **Q: Will this fit a 40 smith and Wesson ?** A: Short answer: probably not. Long answer: you need to figure out what you have. 40 smith and Wesson tells me nothing about your firearm. If your firearm is a Glock 43 or Roger LC9 it would certainly fit this holster. **Q: Does the clip stick out a lot, causing too much?** A: I have Galco IWB holsters for my Glock 43, Glock 23 and Ruger LCP.
