Just get one of the short sides of the cover on first, then slide your fingers along both long sides simultaneously, poking the lip of the tray into the lip of the cover with your fingers as you go, then the other short side is easy. To get them out, just bend the tray all four ways to loosen up the sides, then just jam up from the bottom, easy peasy. The effort involved is well worth it, the cubes are huge and you need so few to get the job done, I only use one trays worth for my gallon bottle and my water stays cold throughout my workday in the Florida heat. I can’t imagine needing more than even one trays worth at any given time, so the fact that you get three for this price is more than worth it. The pros far outweigh the slight cons. Easy 5 stars.

I like the large size for whiskey cubes, bought the 2 pack so I could use one for freezing herbs or citrus juice. They are pliable enough to pop the frozen cubes out easily. BUT... the top rim and lid could be stiffer. Being so flexible (softer than cooked spaghetti), the lid is difficult to snap on securely. 1 Star removed for that, but otherwise they are good.
