Unless you define "work" as just a circular device to hold your hose and there are cheaper options for that. The beauty of this is that once mounted it rotates and reeling in the hose is simple and fast. Better to drain the hose before winding though since it weighs less.Although it is rated for 100 feet it should not be so rated. It doesn't work well with that much hose which is too large for the reel. Better to go with a fifty or 75' hose. **Q: Where are the mounting holes located on the unit? Can you mount using 2 screws top and bottom if they r long enough?** A: The spindle comes off wall mount. Since you'll be cranking up a hose full of water, there's quite a bit of pressure on the mount. I would use 4 screws ( 2 top, 2 bottom ) and try to hit one pair on a wall stud if possible or use a proper anchor. I have used this type of hose reel for 10 years+ and really like them. **Q: I have a 200' hose. Could I wind up 100' remove it from the winder and then wind the rest of the hose up and have two circles of hose?** A: I hope this is not joke. You could wind up 100 feet of hose, then carefully remove half of the reel assembly, at which point the wound up hose coils will want to fall off from the hub. Provided, that you can slide off the hose coils, place it on the ground. Now you have to reattach half the reel and continue with the other 100 feet.
