It takes the place of one of the cutting pads and the die should be cutting side (blade) down against the metal side of the precision base plate. So, make a sandwich in your Bigshot like this: multipurpose platform, precision base plate (metal side up), cardstock or paper, cutting die, and last, cutting pad. Run it through the Bigshot a couple of times, back and forth. Sometimes laying a piece of cardstock on the top cutting pad helps too, working as a shim. If this doesn't do the trick maybe something is defective. The rollers on my Bigshot were pretty loose due to 18+ years of use and I was having trouble cutting intricate dies but the precision base plate solved the problem for me. **Q: is this chrome precision base plate better than the regular precision base plate? Does it work better with thin delicate dies?** A: I have never owned the regular precision plate but my understanding is that they are the same except the chrome one doesn't scratch. I don't own a lot of intricate dies but it works fine on the ones I do use . If you really want it get It, but you don't really need it if you have the regular one. **Q: Does this work with the magnetic platform?** A: It is recommended by mfgr not to isebwith magntetic platform. **Q: Why doesn’t this work with the big shot plus?** A: Thanks for your question. The Big Shot Plus and Big Shot Foldaway apply a considerable amount more pressure than our other machines. This means when dies are used in machines such as the Big Shot Plus, the pressure applied between the die and the Base Plate can damage the die itself, reducing the cutting life. I hope this helps!
