I have two of these in a sealed shallow box with a 4 1/2 inch depth... Face down. They Rock. For the price, really satisfied. I have two jl's in my primary car shallow mounted. Obviously more bass, but much more price. **Q: If i get 3 of the mb quart ds1-254 discus series, 400w, 10" shallow subwoofer, what type/size amp should i get with it.** A: I have a KX-1200 on my DS1-254. That’s 3 times more power than it needs. Why? Well, I can turn my gain down on the amp. It runs cooler and never clips. It has a bass knob too, so, I can control the power to the sub with that knob as well. Once I got it dialed in, I rarely touch the bass control knob. I run more power than I need on all speakers. I get a cleaner, cooler sound that way. My sub is wired to 2 ohms. 3 of them can theoretically get to 1/2 ohm. That’s two low for most amps. You could run a series parallel setup and get to 2 ohms with three subs. Just check your impedance BEFORE you hook them to your amp of choice. My amp is good to 1 ohm. I’m at 2 ohms. Actually, a hair under, at 1.98. **Q: Is there a trick to getting that plastic ring off that covers the mounting holes? I don't want to break it.** A: No trick. You just have to pry really hard, with care. I used a carpet tucking tool. It is strong metal with a 30 degree bend in the blade with 3/8" radii on the two corners. Sub seems well made has good quality speaker push terminals. Sounds good for a shallow mount sub. Only 200 watts RMS but that's all I needed.
