I was able to easily manually replace the old spine with this one. Like others have said, the spine is oval shaped, which is fine with me and means it takes up less space on the bookshelf since the spine is flatter. I was able to easily cut this to the desired length and was pleased to see a notch at each end of the spine to poke the first and last tooth into, thus locking it shut. Because I cut the one end off to make it shorter, I was left with only one lock. However, a dab of hot glue easily fixed the problem.
