I gambled that being unplugged for the four days between ordering and installing should be plenty for the capacitor to self discharge - and it did. It took more time to get the cabinet back on than to remove the cabinet and replace the magnetron. Total time was only about 30 minutes. Microwave is performing like new and is quieter (if you are noticing that your microwave seems to be louder than it used to be, the magnetron is likely dying - consider a preemptive replacement, or at least order up a new one to be ready).
