They're slightly shorter than the average makeup brush, and the double-sided feature takes up less room in your bag or purse. They come with a small roll-up carrying case that will protect the brushes from dirt and damage, but it doesn't grip the smaller brushes well (they slide out), and it adds a bit of bulk to the package. I probably won't use the roll-up for those reasons. I'll update in a few months if I start losing a lot of bristles, but it doesn't seem like that's going to be an issue at all.
