The hinge is made of plastic and has broken on all three of my lids through normal wear and tear. The first broke within 2 weeks and the others broke within a few months. The company did however replace my first one to me free of charge, however I cannot recommend this product as they all have broken. I feel that if the hinge were made of metal this would be a 5 star product.
