I feel this is a great starter straight razor for beginners like myself to learn how to hone, strop and maintain a SR. Though it is sharp; it isn’t shave ready. You will have to hone the razor quite a bit then take it to a strop for this razor to be shave ready. After a thorough honing and a good amount of stropping both on linen and smooth leather; this baby can not only pass the hanging hair (HHT) but also cut arm hairs midway (tree top test). After I’m finished stropping it, this razor delivers a very good shave that is a pleasure to use. ### ⭐ Spend more on a better razor. *by R***D on Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2017* This is not a good razor. The blade is not straight and it is not sharp. I had it professionally sharpened and stopped it and still got a lousy shave. I spent more on a better razor and the shave was great. Bottom line is don't waste your money. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Know what you are getting here, there are some issues *by B***B on Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2017* After using this for months (or trying to) and honing it extensively (setting and re-setting the bevel) I am convinced that the steel in the blade is forged with poor quality and standards. The blade is hard to hone to a fine shave-ready razor edge, it has a tendency to develop a "Wire" or "Feather" or "Burr" edge easily, and does not hold an edge long. I think you are much better going with a Gold Dollar in the long run if you are looking for an inexpenisve razor that you can hone yourself and get to a true shave-ready state.Mine may have been a return from someone else and shipped to me. The case was ripped open and the razor handle has a hard nick in it. Not sure if this is a factory defect or if it was indeed shipped to someone else, returned and then shipped to me. Others have complained that every single Cut Throat Gents they got had some kind of defect in the scales (handle). Maybe this is just a brand issue.Know what you are getting here. Of course for the price, this is not going to be a high-end heirloom razor. Mine came SHARP but NOT shave ready. Good enough to use as a box cutter but NOT sharp enough to shave your face. It took a bit of work honing and then working the strop lightly, but it did a very nice job on my beard for a few passes then lost the edge, I believe from a wire edge forming. I have been using a straight edge for decades, along with a double edge. For the money, I really like the way the razor looks but I do NOT like the way it shaves, even after honing and stropping. I'm probably going to travel with it and a travel strop. It's decent for the price, and if I lose it or it falls apart, so what. I'll just repair it or replace it. If I can get it to hold a good razor edge I'll raise the star rating. But for now, it's on the bubble of keeping it or tossing it.So one more time, yours WILL need some honing to get it to the point where it's acceptable for you. Stopping alone will not do it. The biggest mistake newbies to straights make is thinking that stropping is sharpening. It is not. Stropping is meant to Align the blade, not hone it. You don't need to strop the daylights out of your razor. 10-20 round trips on the strop are usually more than enough to align the blade. Honing is for sharpening, stropping is for aligning. Don't try to sharpen a razor with a strop. Most newbies actually damage a freshly honed razor with stropping. Get it professionally honed (if you can't do it yourself) and enjoy - IF your model will take an edge. Mine barely takes one and a professional honemaster may return it to you and say it is unable to take a razor sharp edge. I have a feeling that quality will fluctuate from one blade to another on this brand.If you are new to straight razor shaving, shave with a professionally honed blade before you touch a strop so you can feel what a finely honed blade feels like on the skin, then strop. This way if your stropping dulls the edge (many newbies can ruin a blade edge with poor stropping technique), you have a benchmark of how it is supposed to feel when truly shave ready.Botton line - if you really want to experience true straight razor shaving with a fine blade, this is NOT the razor to choose. You will need to spend a bit more, or even go with a Gold Dollar and hone it yourself.
