Review: Beautiful Flowers - It’s 05/18/24, and I planted the seeds in my hydroponic garden around 02/14/24. Likely due to my inexperience with hydroponic gardens and planting dahlias, the germination rate was modest. If I did it again, I would only plant one or two seeds in each pod, rather than 5-6 or more. I would also plant some in dirt with a grow light. (There are a number of YT videos you can watch to help with planting dahlias from seed. It is more popular to plant them from tubers which are like bulbs.) The plants I have are flourishing, and then are a lot more flowers ready to bloom. (Tip: I saw in one YT video that after you cut the dahlia or it dies and dries up, there are seeds Withings the flower if you crunch it up in your hand.)

## Features

- An annual plant (30-80 days). Stems are strong, with a height of 30'-40' (80-100 cm). Inflorescences-baskets are large, spherical, with a diameter of 2'-3' (4-6 cm), and a variety of bright colors. Grow by sowing seeds in open ground, or for earlier flowering through seedlings. Flowering begins in July and lasts until frost. Used in group plantings in the design of flower beds, and for cutting.
- Fill a pot or seed tray with moist seed compost and lightly firm the surface. Gently push your dahlia seeds into the compost. Don’t forget to label your seeds. Cover pots with an inflated clear polythene bag, held in place with a rubber band. If sown in seed trays, cover with a propagator lid.
- Seedlings will germinate within a couple of weeks. Once the ‘true’ leaves have grown, seedlings are ready to transplant into individual pots. Hold plants by their leaves and gently tease them out of the soil.
- Gently transplant seedlings in 10 cm (4'') pots of multipurpose compost, firm, and water well. In mid-May, harden off plants by standing them outdoors during the day and bringing them in at night. Plant them in their final positions once all risk of frost has passed.
- You’ll get a wonderful mixture of different flower shapes and colors from the resulting plants.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do these Seeds have to be started in seed starter trays? Or can i plant the seeds directly in my garden?**
A: If your zone is under 8, then start them inside under lights, and heating pads (Dahlias need warmth to germinate). Seedling trays are optional. Usually, Dahlia seeds are large enough to handle,  so you can sow into pots. This would save you from transferring from the seedling tray to individual pots.

Remember, Dahlia's are slow blooming plants. It takes approximately 100 to 120 days for germination for flowers today appear. If you live in a cold zone. I wouldn't start them any later then mid-February. Then plant them out towards the end of May. By that time you should see some flower buds. Dahlia plants started from seeds will have less flowers then those plants that were started from tubers.  Also, most like the seed plants will not be identical to the plant that it was harvested from.... Whereas the plant from the tuber will be identical.

**Q: Aren't dhalias bulbs???**
A: Dahlias develop tubers and usually you can buy the tubers at the store. 1 tuber turns into 1 plant. Dahlias can also be grown from seed. It will take longer to get flowers but you can get more variety at a lower price if you grow seeds. 

I'd reccomend finding a reliable seed supplier because there's plenty of seed scams that give you a different type of seed than the one you ordered and you will be waiting a looooong time and only grow disappointment.

**Q: Can these seeds just be down outside with other wildflower seeds?**
A: I live in Vista, CA.  I grow Dahlias from seeds.....just not these seeds !  I was very disappointed at the germination rate.
I am tempted to try them again as you can get 25 seeds from a deadheaded Dahlia after its flowering has stopped.
If you decide to order, good luck.  Sorry I couldn't provide a better answer.

**Q: are the seeds all separated?**
A: Just a pale sand . Nothing would grow
