It took no more than about 20 minutes and it makes a huge difference when I drop my tailgate. It doesn’t slam onto the bottom anymore, this make it fall down slower and quieter without much added noise. It isn’t intrusive either, it sits at the edge of the tailgate latch relatively tucked away so that’s a plus. I’m hopeful this will last a while given its < $10 price tag.
