I went to check a pork shoulder and slid the probe into the meat, when I went to pull it out the probe disconnected from the base exposing the wires. I have to pull the probe out bu the metal to keep this from happening. I've bought the giant dial meat thermometers for when I bake roasts, turkey breast, etc, but they seem to last one or two times and then when I go to dig it out of the kitchen drawer it doesn't work again. I like the fact this is so quick to give a read on the temp. It seems to be accurate- I tested it on boiling water first, and had no problems. I've used it a few times making dinner- once on a pork loin- so hard to tell if it is done- this worked beautifully! I had no doubt dinner was done! I do like the addition of the handy dandy magnet so I can store it on the side of the fridge as I'm afraid to put it in the utensil drawer.
