I have a pair of New Balance.** A: I have them on mesh style and all leather New Balance sneakers. I think they work great. On the New Balance shoes I used the chrome barrel connector and on y other shoes I tied the laces like a traditional shoe lace. Easy on and off. **Q: are these laces flat or round?** A: It really doesn't matter because they are worthless. Once you lace the sneaks with them, you will not be able to get them on. I threw them in the trash. Save your money and get some sneakers with velcro . **Q: Can you do the barrel lock one handed?** A: I think the idea is that once the fasteners are fastened, you don't have to do that repeatedly. My son and I laced his shoes with these loosely, and then he put his feet in his shoes and stood up. I tightened up the laces, unrolling the twists in them as I went, to where he felt comfortable, and then we tied them. Then I had him pace around the living room a bit. When we got the tension adjusted to his liking, we untied them, strung the carbuncles on (pay attention to where the threads are, so you can close them), tied them and selvaged the ends with a candle lighter. They look great! I will adjust this review if we run into any problems, but so far my son is very happy with these laces. The laces his shoes came with were untying, even double-knotted, several times a day, We wish these were slightly thicker—they stretch to a thinner look with enough tension on them, which makes them look a little cheaper, and downgrades the rugged look of the shoe; it also casts some doubt about their endurance.
