They would work in a pinch but you'd have to make many cuts to cut through the cable, not something you need to mess with while trying to disconnect the battery after a wreck. Someone makes a pliers that resembles a parrot's beak, a by-pass type cutter, that would be what you're looking for. Those would cut in one try. I'll see if I can find a pair on Amazon and relay the stock number. **Q: will it cut through regular nails like nails used for framing?** A: they will cut just about any nail however it will dull them after a while i keep a old pair in my tool bag when im framing they are good for removing nails from boards as well they are not really sharpenable **Q: will these cut bailing wire?** A: Should cut bailing wire easily, since it's relatively thin and easy to work with. I've cut back minor shrubs, coax(RG-6, 11 and 59), and bonding wire(10ga, 14ga, and 16ga). **Q: Do they rust if leave in room with high humidity?** A: I think eventually they would but mine haven’t and the humidity here in Ohio is the worst.
