I mostly use it to grind freeze-dried dog food prior to adding water. It’s so much better than my granite one. (Which is currently packed who knows where.) Pros: 1. Nice, heavy mortar , with glossy outside. The silicone keeps it from sliding around so I don’t have to put a lot of pressure to hold it in place. 2. The mortar has two finishes inside. The glossy top half and the more porous finish in the lower bowl itself. That holds whatever is being ground so it’s not slipping around. 3. The pestle has the same slightly porous exterior on the rounded end. That gives enough friction when grinding to keep the food from slipping out. And to grind the pellets into a smoother consistency. 4. The pestle has silicone on the handle part. Gives a nice comfortable grip.
