Not with this hammer on tool, it makes a clean solid crimp every time and it doesn't get bothered with wire or crimp manufacturing tolerances. The only issue is when you need to make a crimp on-vehicle, you just can't hammer it in there, which is where the other tools offer a practical solution. The 2/0 copper wire required two firm strikes, its about 1/2 in diameter. **Q: Is the base plate of this device pre-drilled to allow it to be screwed down to a work table?** A: No, it is not pre-drilled but it does have triangular welded frame brackets on both sides at the bottom that could be used for mounting with a washer or drilled plate. It seems to work best if you place it on an anvil or other heavy iron mass. **Q: The description says this works up to 4/0 terminals. Is this true?** A: Yes. I have used this for 4/0, 2/0, and 2 AWG wire and it worked great. **Q: is it spring loaded to hold down the terminal?** A: Yes. When I use it I just hold the terminal in the right position with my left hand and strick the punch with the hammer in my right hand. Cheaper than the knockoffs but better quality. Good job Amazon showing the more expensive knockoffs first.
