Not sure about dirt floor. I would suggest you call the manufactures customer support. **Q: Can you use this with felt for under wood floors?** A: If by felt you mean moisture-proof paper, yes **Q: How is this different than something like a 6 Mil plastic sheet available from home depot?** A: As I recall, there wasn't much difference other than the price. At the time, this product was cheaper. Worked great for me when I installed my floor. **Q: Can this be installed as vapor barrier for a shower wall?** A: That's what I used it for.
