Review: Works as a thinner for contact cement, improves bonding of plastic parts! - Smells like acetone, but I don’t know what MEK should smell like. However, unlike Acetone, using this to thin the consistency of contact cement to glue PLA, makes the glued parts hold much, much stronger. Tester contact cement without thinning with MEK, could pull them apart 48 hours later. Parts glued by contact cement thinned with MEK, can’t pull apart without breaking the parts. So, it must be MEK, and it definitely works for thinning contact cement type glues, for plastic (PLA in my case).

**Q: Is this clean, as is, or does it need distillation for purification for laboratory use?**
A: i have never distilled it, as it is good in my estimates for lab work. i have hever had a problem with its purity.

**Q: will it remove paint off an old cast iron carburetor?**
A: yes you can

**Q: Will this disolve cured silicone rubber RTV adhesive sealant?**
A: When all else fails I use this. Xylene may work better if you are trying to get rid of RTV by MEK has removed everything that I have thrown at it, including metal etched primer. Make sure you are well ventilated with this stuff as it is STRONG.

**Q: is this anhydrous?**
A: No. This product comes in a polypropylene bottle which over time leaks and evaporates. Air/water vapor goes in. The more times you open and close the bottle, the more air in the bottle as it empties, and the more humid the environment, the more water vapor gets in.
