## Overview

The Midea Cube 50 Pint Dehumidifier is a high-capacity, Wi-Fi enabled unit designed for spaces up to 4,500 sq.ft. Featuring a unique lift-and-twist design, it offers up to 3X longer runtime with a 4.2-gallon tank and continuous drain option. Smart controls via app and voice assistants provide seamless humidity management, while washable filters and auto-defrost ensure durability and air quality.

## Description

The Midea Cube dehumidifier has a unique lift-and-twist design that offers unparalleled flexibility and capacity: when operating in extended form, it has up to 3 times more water tank capacity than traditional dehumidifiers and can run longer without the hassle of frequently emptying the tank; when in nested or drain form, the unit is half the size allowing compact storage or flexible draining. It can fit into most rooms and maintain the desired humidity level in your home. The patented sensor and wi-fi enabled app allow you to monitor the humidity and water level, all at your fingertips. With multi-directional air intake and up to three different fan speeds, it is powerful enough to dehumidify your room, and quiet enough that you'll forget it's even there.

Review: Amazing performance - I bought two of these to try to knock down the ~67% winter humidity in my Florida house, which sits next to the water. This can occur for a month or so where the temps drop but outdoor humidity remains in the 80%+ range. I can't run the A/C because it's already mid 60's indoors, so I thought let's try dehumidifiers. I set one up on each side of the house and set the HVAC to just run recirculate for ten minutes of each hour. Within six hours both units had pulled over a gallon of water each out of the air and dropped the house humidity almost 10%. By morning the house was down to 50% humidity, towels in the bathrooms were already dry where normally a shower would leave them damp until the next afternoon, it felt so much better. I've found a spot for one where it can continuous drain into a utility sink, but the other has such a massive bucket that it won't require emptying probably more than once a week now that the initial knock-down has been completed. Keep in mind that bucket size. If you do let it fill completely, you're talking about 40+ pounds of water. Fortunately the console and the phone app both allow you to configure it to do a high water shut off far earlier than the physical bucket becoming full, if you want to stop it at 25%, 50%, 75% for weight reasons. It defaults to the lowest setting, so if you plug the thing in without further configuration, it's going to auto shut off at maybe ten pounds of water, far earlier than it would have to if you do want it to fill the bucket. They are loud, have no doubt about that. These are large dehumidifiers designed to tackle thousands of square feet, so they have a large compressor and evaporator grid, and a large fan to pull a lot of air through. Even in low mode they put out a good bit of noise. It's not an annoying noise though; I slept fine with one of them fifteen feet from me in the same room, but those sensitive to any amount of elevated volume may not like it even if it does sound like white noise. The base comes with casters in case you want to wheel them around a hard floor; may make it easy to wheel one over to a step-in shower for emptying if you don't want to lug 40 pounds of water by the handle.
Review: It's possibly the best dehumidifier you can get, but excessively terrible at the same time - It works well. The water removal is pretty great, and it is a little loud. 1 Star review is because when you remove the bucket it drips onto the floor, and when you place it back on the bucket you have to constantly keep removing it and putting it back until it realizes it's back on the bucket. Update: The plastic threads for the constant drain port seem to be extremely easy to strip away, even from one install of a hose. The threads being shredded caused a leak. The leak leaked into the bucket, the bucket filled up to the point of spilling, and the basement had tons of water on the floor. The unit being in continuous drain mode turns off the bucket fill level monitor, and there was no way for the dehumidifier to know the bucket was not just full, but overflowing. Meanwhile the dehumidifier was constantly reporting 30% relative humidity, so this happened for weeks before anyone noticed. Also both of the dust filters seem to be stuck in the sides, and I cannot remove them to clean them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Sorry, manufacturer didn't answer this question clearly. Does the unit shut itself off when full, or will it flood my room?**
A: If you have "pump mode" on, it might flood your room. It did for my parents. Pump mode goes off on its own, so you must have it connected to a drain 24/7. On its own because it neither drains fully, nor properly detects the water level.

What happened to my parents was they connected the hoses, turned on pump mode, but it "didn't work". So they waited a few minutes then turned off pump mode so it wouldn't start the minute they walked away. When the bucket got full, they turned on pump mode, stood there for 15+ minutes, then put the hose back. It seemed like manual operation, and after waiting 20 minutes for it to pump out, they forgot to turn it off. Then, in the middle of the night sometime, the pump turned itself on to empty and flooded the floor.

Pump mode is when it thinks the bucket is full. Not when it's necessarily actually full, and pump mode WILL NOT EVER ENGAGE unless it thinks the bucket is completely full. So if your bucket fills in 8 hours and you need to manually move it to a location to turn on the pump before bed so that it doesn't turn off in the middle of the night, you CANNOT have the pump empty the bucket because it will only turn on when 100% full. So you could end up with it turning off in the middle of the night since you can't manually engage the pump. If you choose to manually empty the bucket so that it will run through the night--not an option for my elderly parents, but I empty mine and we have the exact same unit--often the bucket will not reset the water level, so it will turn off when it's "full" when really it only has two inches of water in it.

Make sure you disable pump mode, since the sensor and software are poorly designed and implemented, and it will not engage the pump unless it is at level 4 full or thinks its level 4 full. It will never engage when you set the max fill level below that such as 1 or 2 or 3, will never engage manually when you turn on pump mode, you cannot even manually tell it "I emptied the bucket ahead of time, reset your counter since you use software to assume/count rather than a sensor (which only detects 100% full) which pairs with the software", and if you don't remember to turn off pump mode after you wheeled 60 pounds of water+machinery to a nearby sink and waited 20-40 minutes for it to pump...well,forgetting will leave you flooded.

Midea hasn't QA-tested their products for normal use. Unless we happened to get 2 units with faulty sensors, but I doubt that. I'm 99% sure that they programmed software to assume the fill level, and a sensor only exists if the bucket water level is at the very top, basically a failsafe for the junky software some idiot approved without a manual reset option. What a joke.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome Dehumidifier
*by T***R on December 10, 2024*

This product is easy to install, looks great, & runs efficiently, & very quietly. My humidity dropped quickly from 80% to 55% within a few hours. It is compact in size but it does weigh 42 pounds, so if you can't lift that amount, you'll need help, but it is worth it. It is easiest to use with a drain hose, but you can use the tank to collect the water. The only concern is that the heavy part sits on the water storage tank, so you'd have to lift it off to empty the tank. But I did see that there is a small hose included that could maybe be used to drain into a bucket if you don't have a floor drain. This model does not have a pump, but the company does make a model with a pump to expel water up if you need that. I am very happy with this dehumidifier. I breathe better in my house thanks to Midea.
