The light output from this umbrella is a little bit better in my opinion because of the reflectiveness of the white lining material. it isn't as mat as regular umbrellas, but has a pearlescent sheen to it which helps with bouncing back light. Note: 45inch may not seem like a lot, but this umbrella is big. This one is certainly not suitable if you plan on shooting outdoors in the open. For that I would suggest to use the 32 inch. I think the black outer cover makes it look a little more silver but I haven't seen any color difference in my photos using it as a bounce umbrella. **Q: Where can I get the black cover so light do not spread?** A: The Westcott part number 2016 45-inch umbrellaand the 4633 7-foot umbrella come with removable black backs. I also use black material from a fabric store to block light from the side. Mounted on cardboard it's called a flag. Sweat shirt material is stretchy and works well.
