Brother uses notches on the side and bottom of the cartridge to determine what type/size/color is loaded into the label maker. These are missing one notch, and appear to the machine as a white on black regular label. You'll need to use a razor or exacto to put the one missing notch in th cartridge. See the picture I've attached. The good? They printed great, better than the brother branded ones actually. Text is very dark and easy to read. Plus the price is amazing, literally 1/5 the cost per cartridge as the name branded ones.
