I specifically put in search "can opener made in usa" and it coughs up about 5000 that are not. Disappointing! Thank you for your answers, folks. **Q: If this is such a great can opener then why did a few people say it doesn't cut?** A: This is one of the poorest can openers I've ever used. It works okay on about 50% of cans. It will not track properly while turning the crank on many style cans, so you must start again on a different part of the top. This leaves jagged cuts and you still have to break the lid loose in the places where it jumped off the track. Not at all what I expected with so many great ratings. **Q: easy for arthritic hands** A: I know this is a little late but there is a Manual can opener that is arthritis friendly in my opinion. It is the Swing-A-Way 609WH Magnetic Wall Can Opener, It is screwed into the wall. Once it is set up you open the top and set your can in, once the can is set in the cutters it holds it there and there is a REAL magnet that grabs the lid and holds it in place and a good sized handle that you turn to cut off the lid. Since the can is locked in and it is mounted to the wall it is easy to turn the handle since you do not have to worry about holding the handles together or the can moving on you. This is the ONLY one that is easy on my arthritis that is not electric.The most difficult part is getting the can locked into the jaws. It is made to lay flat(ish) against the wall and pulls out and when you need it. There are slots that the whole can opener drops into to keep it in whatever position you need. **Q: Is the magnet meant to work while you're opening the can? How? Or do you have to rotate the opener after the lid's detached so the magnet can lift it?** A: Do you have to use the gray handle to the left in the first picture to rotate the opener? I bought what appeared to be a similar manual can opener with a magnet and ended up very disappointed. I have severe arthritis in my hands, in spite of wearing braces, doing PT, OT, and exercises, etc. Not only did I have a lot of trouble using that product, but this one looks even more complicated. On the other one, most of the time the cutting mechanism ended up "in the open" even after I'd spent a lot of effort turning the handle. I couldn't tell whether or not it had cut the lid off until I looked. This one looks easier to use, even though my arthritis is worse, since I got rid of the other one. I also bought another type, a good brand, second hand. It was very tall, and plugged into the wall. It had a long lever type handle and appeared to be easier to manage. But the mechanism fell into the "tower" and broke off. I think a battery driven can opener like this one, if it works properly, is more useful for people with hand problems, especially if you live where there are occasional power outages.
