It does weird things to the roots. I think most roots are meant to grow in loosely damp soil that has some oxygen. If this gel touches a root, the root can't send out fine fibers in that direction. Because the gel is more often wet and that can make the roots get slimy. Maybe the root wasn't damaged but it was different. I would think it would be fine for bigger plants to mix with the soil around the sides and bottom of pot (like a wicking pot, actually {editing} that may be the perfect use for this stuff, just keep it away from the roots and I think it should be fine) but I'm still wary of using any more with small plants. I hope to find out decisively someday by running an experiment. But I had put some with turmeric tubers I was trying to start and the gel was wet while the tubers were drying out everywhere but next to the gel.
