There are no double walls so there’s no way for food to get “inside the dividers.” They aren’t leak proof so liquids can go under the dividers. **Q: I'd like to have two different looking boxes without having to purchase something with plastic. Any ideas?** A: Why don’t you get some duct tape and decorate the lid **Q: I have the metal lid. Will the plastic cover make it any easier for my preschooler to open?** A: I would think so.
