Once inserted, you are able to easily take the cover on and off. We have a 9ft offset and when the umbrella is closed it has a generous amount of space. Also the quality is amazing! We love it! **Q: How do you connect the pole to the zipper?** A: I'm not sure what the question is? What I do when I want to put the cover on is I insert the pole into one corner of the bag. I then lift the fully opened bag over the top of the umbrella with the pole and work the cover onto the umbrella.
