**Q: How many placemats are in each order?**
A: There are four.

**Q: where are these placemats made in ? which country?**
A: They are marked Made in China on the back.

**Q: Are these meant to be used as an alternative surface to do homework on?**
A: Not really... They are meant to place hot plates on when you eat, in order to protect your dining room table. I suppose that if you are writing on a thick notepad, you could (you would otherwise risk ruining the surface), but I personally would only eat over them.

**Q: Is the background color more of a brownish or a grayish color?**
A: Brownish gold. But there are speaks of grey in each placemat.   On the whole the placemats are very beautiful.   Not gaudy.
