That said, with this unit, you pop in the 9V battery, set the emissivity adjustment (on-screen, but as with most handheld thermometers, you have to program it for the type of material you're scanning as not all materials emit the same amount of detectable heat at the same temperature). Once programmed (look up the number, use the up/down buttons to set it, done, takes 10 seconds), it has been perfectly accurate. I've used it for several months now (approximately 2 minutes of total "on" time per day) and the battery still has a full charge, so even the battery power seems to last forever in this scanner.
