Whereas, most of the reviews in 2015 and 2016 are 5 stars.I think I read a comment somewhere in the comment section that Oster may have updated the unit? In any case, I think Gladlands comment is older info and newer reviews should be given more weight. **Q: Does it whistle loud when finished or just shut off?** A: The kettle will just shut off. During the heating cycle, expect the kettle to do the following: 1- The power button will pulsate until the set temperature is reached. 2- Once the temperature is reached , the kettle will automatically shut off. 3- The display will stay illuminated for 10 minutes while displaying the current water temperature. **Q: For anybody who owns BVST-EK5967, does it have an whine/hum when it's off but sitting on it's base? Mine does and wondering if this is "normal"?** A: I have this problem too. It’s a high pitched but barely audible electric whine sorta noise. It bothers my sensitive ears but my husband can barely hear it. I called the manufacturer directly, and they offered to send me a new one free of charge. I have bought a few of them and here is why - I use the lower temps because I do a lot of yeast baking and I find heating the water to the correct temp instead of a higher temp and cooling is very convenient. But I had one short out while we were camping in our trailer & one boiled dry and must've also shorted out.
