The thickness of the material makes it sturdy enough to hold up to our bumpy hard ground and rough dead grass. I like that it's not as slippery as the others we've seen. My daughter loved running thru the sprinkler and "water puddle". It holds a little water in the middle and after shutting off the sprinkler, my dog loved playing in that water.
