Slowhand: The Life and Music of Eric Clapton

Excellent read if you are a Clapton fan and interested in 60s rock culture.

It was a good read.

Book ok except for a few mistakes . David English was never Chairman of RSO he was in charge of the record label until being dismissed in 1974. The insert for There’s One In Every Crowd was a self portrait which Eric wanted as the sleeve but was persuaded by the record company not to use it , so he choose the picture of his dog , Willow , as the outer sleeve. For Slowhand the inner sleeve was mostly put together by David Stewart using images supplied by Eric and Pattie

Interesting story of the great mans life. Some insight into his psyche and how he’s managed to stay at the top through all the low and highs. A must read

The first 367 pages take us up to 1990 when Clapton finally got sober, and the final 50 pages race through 1990-2018. It just seems that Philip Norman either only has source material (heavily reliant on Pattie Boyd) up until 1990 (although, even then, he manages to miss out Clapton's furious dating spree of the late 80's that saw his name linked to a succession of models, actresses and rockers, including Naomi Campbell, Sharon Stone and Sheryl Crow), or else opines that the reader's interest will only extend as far as tales of rock'n'roll excess and bad behaviour. Much of this bad behaviour has now been related in any case in the film 'Life in 12 Bars', authorised and publicised by Clapton himself, and so the stuff about him playing on his back while drunk and so on are old hat. I did learn a bit more about Clapton's childhood and early friendships from the book - but, otherwise, I learned very little that is not already well known. It could be that the artist's preference for privacy makes the documentation of the later years difficult, but, heck, there is quite a bit about his successful band of 2010 (including Derek Trucks), and the various Crossroads gigs, on the Web, so it wouldn't have been hard to fill in a few blanks. I can only conclude that a certain amount of the book's rush to a conclusion must be down to either lack of time or laziness.

J'ai pu ajouter les connaissances aux sensations pour un plaisir plus grand en écoutant et regardant Eric Clapton, le King, vraiment. Et les unes et les autres ne s'arrêteront pas en si bel et bon chemin. Je profite de cette satisfaction toujours rencontrée avec les prestations Amazon pour émettre un regret. En effet, je n'ai pas encore reçu de réponse valable à une question plusieurs fois posée et que je réitère ici. J'ai, très fidèle client et membre Prime, déjà archivé bien plus de 500 commandes depuis 2012. Mon compteur d'archivage est donc, techniquement semble-t-il, bloqué. Irrémédiablement ? Si j'en crois la réponse, certes aimable, pour le moins peu claire et, partant, inutile et fort insatisfaisante, que j'ai obtenue, tel est malheureusement le cas. C'est alors moi qui suis bloqué dans le suivi de mes achats. Et, conséquemment, ceux-ci, faute de clarté ménagère, le sont aussi. Désolé, le fait est là. Quel archaïsme ! Votre remarquable empire présente un bizarre talon d'Achille. Que diantre, faites quelque chose !

bon livre

The author‘s coverage of Clapton‘s life comes across as very genuine and does not try to conceal or defend his often not very attractive traits. I can recommend the book to anyone who is interested in the music scene of that era.
