This is a sharp, serrated blade, and it is double-edged. While I used sharp knives to cook when I was 9 or 10, this would be an accident waiting to happen, as a child would be more likely to press on the back of the blade due to having less strength. **Q: Does this work well with tough, hard to cut bagels** A: This works very well with hard bagels. Watch your fingers as this has a very sharp blade. I highly recommend this cutter. **Q: Can it be used to cut rolls? They are hard, GF & about as thick as a large bagel.** A: I've never used it on a roll, but if they are only as thick as a bagel, I don't see why not!! **Q: Not sure I see how this is any safer than using a regular knife. What am I missing here?** A: The prongs hold the bagel so the knife stays in the middle of the bagel and not slipping off onto your findger.
