Exterior is bright polished but not exactly mirrored; which is ok because mirror finishes don't stay flawless for long. As others have said, lid handle can get hot so be aware. Side handle is sturdy and doesn't get too hot, and is angled up a bit. It is large enough to hold with two hands if needed. Excellent buy at $60 Edit: Also bought 2qt size. Finish of the inside and outside of the 2 qt size was less polished, with obvious scratches from initial sanding; especially around where the handle is attached. Inside spotted boiling rice, leaving small dark gray stains; removable with Barkeepers Friend. I'm uncertain if thats because it wasn't polished as well as the 3 quart; or inconsistent quality of stainless steel used on the interior.
