For itt to work correctly you need a stereo with 6 channel pre.amp output.As far as protection this is only designed to make the connection to your new stereo without cutting your factory harness. But if wired correctly I see no reason it could harm your stereo. **Q: Will this work in my 99 mustang base model** A: The best I can say is, maybe. I had an issue with installing it because there was some kind of other adapter needed and so I ended up taking it to a shop for them to install it. I ended up not using this item at all. **Q: I'm trying to replace the OEM CassetteRadio on my 1993 Lincoln TC w/ premium sound. New radio only has 2 RCA out. Will this work for me?** A: As is it would only allow 2 speakers to play.
