    Works well, with cautions

*by B***O on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 19, 2014*

I used one of these collars for the 1.5 year old miniature poodle I purchased and had to fly home. This was done at the recommendation of the breeder who had used one on my pup for a month before I picked him up. When I got my new dog, Monty, to the hotel room after picking him up, I changed the old collar out for a new one as he was very nervous, running around the room panting excessively. I saw an immediate change with him calming right down. I thought, "Hurray, this thing really works!"The next day we took a 1.5 hour flight, then had to wait 5 hours for the next flight; which was 6 hours. Monty flew in the cabins with me and was very calm throughout the whole time. I was really impressed with him and with the collar. So I left it on. The next several weeks Monty was not the dog I thought I had purchased, just not a good dog. He appeared not to be house trained, he did not obey me attacking me, barked and whined all the time and when I would try to touch him, he would pull back and try to hide, acting like a dog that had been abused. (Note: I am a dog sitter and have dealt with a lot of dogs over the years - Monty was acting worse than any I had taken care of.) The breeder and I communicated with me asking why he might be acting like he was and her telling me that he was a great dog that was just fine with her. After 3 weeks of this, I was almost to the point of returning him but decided to wait one more week.I also took this collar off as it had been 3 weeks (they say it lasts up to one month). Within 3 days Monty became a totally different dog. He listened to me, started coming to me when I called me and walked at "heel", and he even started to go to the bathroom outside! It was like he had been drugged by the collar. Now, after being off the collar for 2 months, Monty is doing much better (he still has some behavior problems, it turns out he is a "soft" dog and needs special handling and training; which I am able to give). So, my caution in using this collar would be to really watch how your dog reacts with it on and go from there. I don't like to drug my dog and think this collar can be useful in some situations that might be super stressful for my dog. I plan on using it if I have to fly Monty somewhere, just because he freaks out at anything new, although I will probably not put it on unless he "wigs out" at some point while traveling.

    I've been testing....

This collar did not seem to work as well as the Sergeants and the Sentry (which are identical). Plus they have a nice lavender scent that helps the dog and me : ) I have been testing collars to see if the DAP one is worth more than twice the money and I'm not done testing the DAP yet, but so far I would say the Sentry and the Sergeants are great, especially for the price. This one probably worked well too, but she didn't seem as calm on this one. Give it a try and see what you think. I am, on the whole, getting a good experience from these calming collars though. There are calming treats on the market that work great but this dog can't have any fat and they are fatty. Also some pills which are less fatty and work well. But the collar works all the time.

he was the best behaved dog I had ever seen until he saw ...

*by T***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 14, 2014*

We have 3 dogs, all of which are rescues. The last dog, a pit whoknowswhat mix was found as a 4 month old with it's sibling wandering the street in the hills above Berkeley California where they had been dumped. Both exhibited pit aggression. The female and male were both sterilized and sent to obedience class prior to putting them up for adoption. My partner and I would take turns with another couple taking care of them until they could be adopted. The female was adopted fairly quickly, but the male quickly claimed us and our other two as his family and I couldn't give him up. Then the trouble started. He attacked our english setter, whom he nearly worshiped as a baby and the third time could have killed him. I was told to get rid of him. I put him in the care of a behaviorist wilst we prepared to move up to Washington state. I was determined that I would somehow salvage this dog. When I went back to collect him, he was the best behaved dog I had ever seen until he saw another dog, then all hell broke loose. When I got him up to Washington, I kept him segregated from the other two for a bit, our female Kelpie would have nothing to do with the separation and as before, he acquiesced to her authority. The English setter, while scared to death of him, eventually calmed down but it was obvious that it was a very tense relationship on both of their parts. Our new vet told me about Interostop, by the same company and gave me a demo of it. As soon as the spray hit him he turned into a pussy cat. While it was a terrific emergency aid, I couldn't expect to be able to be there when every altercation could happen. Then I discovered nurtureCALM, I tried one collar and the effect was nothing short of remarkable. He even puts up with the English Setter's fits of needling him. I tried one on the setter as well, but it had no effect. Short of sedating him, I don't think there is a way to calm that breed down. I've been using the nurtureCALM on the pit mix for over a year and I would not even think of not using it. In fact, our vet now carries it in her office and I've recommended it to the behaviorist where I had boarded the dog. If the condition manageable by this collar, it works like a charm, if it is some other medical or mental problem, then I can't vouch for it at all. All I can say is that it can't hurt to try it out.
