The texture of the product is a thick gel, so it's difficult to apply it in a thin layer, but great if you're going for best waterproofing and not worried about a smooth, even finish. I couldn't practically iron a toilet seat (ironing on Medium heat is the way the instructions say to activate the product after 45 mins dry time), so I used a hair dryer on High heat. I held the hair dryer over one spot, about 2cm away from the surface, for 45 seconds before moving to the next spot. It took a while, but the heat from the dryer worked perfectly to activate the polymers in the gel. I'm really happy with the product and glad to have a solution to waterproof the silly fabric toilet seat. Review: Great Product! - Using this to cover old Converse shoes with fabric. In the instructions, it says to use an iron. A heat gun is not in the instructions as a suggestion but may still work. Good luck if you try it out **Q: Does this make fabric stiffer?** A: It will change the texture of the fabric a little. But it will not be too stiff to stand the fabric. I used lightweight interfacing to make a medium-sized cosmetic bag and it was just right. **Q: Can this be used to waterproof a store bought backpack?** A: It'll make it water resistant but I'm unsure if it'll be waterproof.
