Review: BP cuff is decent but stethoscope is terrible - Edit of previous review: While I still can't say I love the BP cuff design, I can say that I love the customer service! After my previous review I was contacted by one of Paramed's representatives and they replaced my faulty unit with a new unit. I hadn't requested a replacement since I already owned a stethoscope and didn't have a problem with the BP cuff besides the design of it so I was very impressed when their customer service reached out to me to remedy the problem.The new unit works very well and I would buy from Paramed again based off their customer service alone. For the price you pay this BP does the job although there are some annoyances that I'm not fond of. The dial isn't permanently attached to the cuff and instead slides on the cuff with a clip in the back. This can get frustrating since the tubes connecting pump and dial get tangled and the dial occasionally flops off the cuff or whatever else it is connected to. For the cuff itself in order to get it on one needs to slide their arm into it instead of wrapping it around the arm. This can be personal preference but I don't like this feature. As for the stethoscope, it's TERRIBLE and would better be suited for a kid's doctor play set. But, what can you expect for the cheap price. Stethoscope is not very good do not buy from this company. **Q: It this item can be returned** A: No! It cannot be returned. I know because I just purchased this and was very disappointed by the quality of the stethoscope. I purchased this about a week ago and am told it can’t be returned. I’m a physical therapist working in a skilled nursing environment and must be able to depend on accurate readings. I just purchased a new sphygmomanometer and stethoscope of better quality separately. I’ll use the cuff as a back up and probably end up giving the stethoscope to me 2 and a half year old son. **Q: Can a person with arthritic thumbs pump the bulb fairly easily?** A: yes, no problem, the majority of the pumping is in the clutching of the entire hand.....no thumb action required. The thumb is needed to adjust the screw/button but it is fluid and doesn't stick like some cuffs. **Q: Does the needle guage pulsate?** A: I have seen things like this before. It’s an analog device. If you measure 60 cycles per second with a good analog voltmeter, you will notice a very slight 60hZ jump on the needle. I wanted to purchase a set for home-usage. I think it is something that should always be kept at any household as you can never know what could happen and need a quick assessment. Overall, I am pleased with this product. Of course, you get what you pay for and there are definitly so much more that is better! However, I am here to write a review on this sole product. The blood pressure cuff is quite nice and you will need to first calibrate it using the little silver key that comes with it. The instructions are easy to follow and I had no trouble with it. I tried utilizing the cuff to read my own BP (blood pressure) and it was pretty accurate at 130s/80s, which is what I am usually sitting around at. As for the stethoscope, well I agree with everyone else in the other past reviews. It is VERY cheap!!! Please remember that you are purchasing a low-priced kit that will not have amazing technology built-in and will have some downsides. I did have trouble listening to my own BP pressure using the stethoscope so I had to use my other personal one. However, I dude use the Paramed stethoscope to listen to my own heart sounds and I did hear it just fine. Note that it is only a one-sided diaphragm scope and does NOT have a bell side to it. Overall, it is pretty decent for the price. Please do your research before committing to an item! For the price, it's not bad at all.
