We didn't notice the odor until the tree warmed up after setting it up then the smell of mold or mildew became obvious. The seller admitted that it could be mold and suggested we wash it. That is very hard to do and didn't help. We are hoping that the odor will go away as it is too hard to get back in that box to return it. They shouldn't keep their trees in a moldy warehouse in NJ. Aside from the odor we are very happy with the tree. It was very easy to set up, easiest of any tree we have ever had. We got the pre-lit tree 5 and one half feet tall. It came in 2 sections. Just put the bottom section in the stand, plug it in, put the top section on and the lights come on. Only 1 plug to worry about and all the wires are inside the tree pole. We do think there are too many lights though. At night it is too bright. We are going to add colored lights to help tone it down a bit. Too bad about the odor, we've had it over a week now and it still smells although maybe not as much. hope it goes away. Update: One year later it still has an odor although not quite as bad as when we originally got it. Update: Another year and it still smells bad.
